Showers and sunshine: Mixed weather patterns expected across Kenya this week
Areas expected to receive rain include the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central Rift Valley, and coastal counties.
Rainy skies and shifting weather are here to stay this week, with Nairobi, Kiambu, Mombasa, and many other counties bracing for more downpours and changing conditions, according to a fresh five-day forecast by the Kenya Meteorological Department.
In its outlook released on Monday, June 2, the department indicated that rainfall will persist in multiple regions from Tuesday, June 3, to Saturday, June 7. Areas expected to receive rain include the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central Rift Valley, and coastal counties.

In counties like Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka, residents should expect cloudy mornings breaking into sunny intervals throughout most of the week.
However, there may be rainfall in isolated places on Tuesday. Afternoon and night showers are likely across the week, although Saturday night is forecast to be partly cloudy.
Maximum temperatures in these areas will reach up to 27°C, while the minimum will drop to 5°C.
Counties in the southeastern lowlands, including Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, as well as inland parts of Tana River, will generally experience cloudy mornings transitioning into sunny intervals.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday afternoons will mostly be sunny, while Thursday and Friday afternoons may bring rain in a few areas. Nights are expected to remain partly cloudy.
Temperatures in these areas will range between 10°C and 31°C.
In the Coast region, which includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and parts of Tana River, showers are predicted for most mornings, afternoons, and nights.
However, sunny intervals are likely on Saturday morning and Tuesday afternoon, with Tuesday night expected to be partly cloudy.
These coastal areas will see maximum temperatures of 32°C and minimum temperatures of 23°C.
The Lake Victoria Basin and parts of the Rift Valley are also in for a wet week. Counties including Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, and others will mostly see sunny mornings, except on Tuesday when rain is expected in a few areas.
Showers and thunderstorms are predicted every afternoon, while light rain may fall on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday nights. Wednesday and Saturday nights are expected to be dry.
Temperatures in these areas will range between 10°C and 30°C.
In the northern regions of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, conditions will remain dry and hot, with sunny days and partly cloudy nights. Daytime highs are forecast to reach 38°C, with lows at 16°C.
Turkana and Samburu Counties will also experience sunny weather for most of the week, with partly cloudy nights. Temperatures in these counties are expected to range between 16°C and 39°C.
The Kenya Meteorological Department advises residents in affected regions to plan accordingly and stay informed of daily updates, especially those in flood-prone areas, following incidents such as the recent flooding witnessed along Waiyaki Way in Nairobi.
